Being a dioecious plant, mountain pepper has the male and female reproductive organs in separate individuals. Since only male mountain pepper can bear fruits, no one can really identify the gender of mountain pepper before it blooms. With relatively higher price, local aborigines often blend it with ginger and pepper to make aromatic condiments.
